After a long and dreadful winter, we need all the help we can get to boost our energy and to rebalance our body.
There is a wide range of detox products available on the market (herbal teas, juices, cures) but we have a simple homemade recipe just for you! This recipe contains detoxifying foods AND is filled with vitamins to get you back on track now that the weather is warming up! You will probably be surprised to learn that you do not need to go far to find detox foods that work perfectly. In fact, sometimes all you need to do is open your fridge!
So what is a detox? The cure or the detox diet, in reality, is based on a simple principle: purifying your body. And where does that begin? Being able to give yourself a detox starts with your diet! It is all about paying particular attention to our food choices in order to eliminate the toxins, while making sure we get a good amount of beneficial foods which are naturally detoxifying.
As we approach the warmer season and revitalize our bodies with both a detox and vitamin C, I thought I would share with you my recipe for a green detox smoothie to add to your daily routine! BONUS: It tastes delicious too!
Here’s what you’ll need to get started:
A whole lemon: According to some, it is the king of the detox! Indeed, it promotes the elimination of toxins and fats that lodge in the body in addition to being filled with potassium and vitamin C. Several scientific studies even show that lemon is effective in the prevention of cancers, that it lowers cholesterol levels in the blood and boosts the immune system.
Pineapple: This delicious exotic fruit is filled with good digestive enzymes and in addition, it’s a food that burns through fat.
Kiwi: You may be surprised to learn that kiwi is the ultimate anti-ageing fruit. It is filled with antioxidants and vitamin C that help preserve our youth capital from within. Kiwi is also known to promote intestinal transit … Not glamorous but still very recommended when talking about detox.
Green apple: I added green apple in my smoothie because personally, I love its tangy taste. But beyond its excellent flavour, apples have many benefits that are found mainly in their skin, giving you a pure dose of vitamin C; much needed this time of the year.
Kale: Did you know that all kinds of cabbages are powerful antioxidants that help the liver to get rid of toxins through their sulfur composition? Not surprising that we find them in several detox recipes!
Banana: You wouldn’t believe it, given its high amount of calories, but this common exotic fruit contains digestive properties that are perfect for this detox smoothie. Bananas are also a good source of potassium, which helps regulate fluids in the body and thus avoid water retention!
We won’t keep you waiting any longer! Here’s this delicious detox smoothie recipe that will brighten up your day or get rid of your afternoon dip!
- 1/2 banana
- A green apple cubed (unpeeled)
- A cup of fresh pineapple cubes
- A Kiwi
- A lemon from which the peel has been removed by cutting it. We want to keep the pulp
- A cup of kale
- Maple syrup to taste
- 1/2 cups of liquid (water, almond milk, coconut water or maple water)
-
The best part about smoothies is that they are not complicated to prepare! We throw all the ingredients in a blender and Voilà! Stop the blender when you get a smooth and creamy texture.

Personally, I used a thinkkitchen High Performance Mixer, which I find wonderful for making smooth and successful smoothies every time. A powerful 1200 watts motor will allow you to easily obtain a smooth texture and grind all the fruits.
Enjoy!
