The Quintessential Summer Drink: Mojitos!

A classic Cuban cocktail, the mojito is a beloved summer drink with its perfectly balanced taste of rum, lime, and fresh mint. Impress your guests at your next outdoor dinner, or relax by the pool in style, with this easy-to-make cocktail that never disappoints.

Here’s how to prepare it:

Ingredients per glass:

  • 6 mint leaves, plus additional leaves for garnish
  • 1 ounce (2 tablespoons) lime juice
  • 1 ounce (2 tablespoons) simple syrup
  • 2 ounces (4 tablespoons) white rum
  • 2 to 4 ounces (½ cup) soda water

Preparation:

  1. In a cocktail shaker, muddle the mint leaves with a muddler or an unfinished wooden spoon. The goal is to “bruise” the leaves to release the flavour, not crush and break them, so only mash them 3 or 4 times.
  2. Add the lime juice, rum, and simple syrup. Then, fill the cocktail shaker with ice and shake until cold.
  3. Place ice into a glass and pour the cocktail over it using a cocktail strainer. Top off the glass with soda water and garnish with additional mint leaves.
