Take A Bite out of Naples, Italy, with this delicious Pasta Puttanesca

Feeling like you could use a vacation? You’re not alone! A quick fix would be to take your tastebuds on a trip, Today we’re transporting you to the picturesque town of Naples, Italy. An Italian escape by the sea sounds good, right? One bite of this savoury, briney pasta, and it’s like you’re right there.

Want to take it a step further? End your meal with some gelato for the full Italian experience! 

Here is how to make a delicious Pasta Puttanesca:

Ingredients:

  • 1/4 c. extra-virgin olive oil
  • 4 cloves garlic, smashed
  • 4 anchovy fillets, chopped
  • 1 (28-oz.) diced tomatoes
  • 1/2 c. kalamata olives, pitted
  • 1/4 c. capers
  • 1/2 tsp. crushed red pepper flakes
  • Kosher salt
  • 1 lb. spaghetti or bucatini – we also encourage you to try making your own pasta!
  • Chopped parsley, for garnish
  • Freshly grated Parmesan, for serving

Preparation:

  1. In a large skillet or pot over medium heat, heat oil. Add garlic and cook until fragrant, that should take about 1 minute. Add anchovies and cook until fragrant, another minute. Add tomatoes, olives, capers, and red pepper flakes. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and let simmer for about 15 minutes. 
  1. Meanwhile, bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add spaghetti and cook according to package directions, until al dente; drain. Toss spaghetti in sauce. Sprinkle with parsley and Parmesan and serve in your favourite pasta bowls.
