2016 Food Trends

Saying goodbye to 2015 doesn’t mean we have to let go of our favorite food trends from the year, it just means that we have some new trends to look forward to in 2016. Here are a few new trends to keep an eye out for this year and maybe even add to our New Year’s resolution!

Seaweed is the new Kale

We’re familiar with seaweed on our sushi, but his year, it’s moving to the forefront of our kitchens. Seaweed is very easy to use as it can be eaten raw, baked or cooked and there are many different kinds. To name a few, there are Wakame, Kelp, Alaria and of course, Nori. You can make a seaweed salad and serve it in our Insalata Salad Set, add it into your soup or make Nori “Chips” for a healthy snack. What most don’t know is that seaweed has an abundance of health benefits for both us, and the environment. Seaweed can be rich in fibre, protein, Vitamin B12, and are low in calories. In addition, Iodine and omega-3 fatty acids, which many types of seaweed have aplenty, are essential for brain development.

Acai Bowls

This new trend will make waking up a breeze, giving you something to look forward to every morning. An Acai bowl is made from acai berries which are tropical fruits from Brazil with numerous health benefits as well as an unbeatable great taste. An acai bowl resembles ice cream; you have a smoothie on the bottom and then you add your choice of toppings;  acai bowls go well with oatmeal, fruit, or even peanut butter. Because acai berries are tropical , you will most likely only be able to find them as a frozen puree. Simply add that to the blender then mix in milk, and any extra fruits you want, then serve it in our multipurpose bowl. This is the perfect breakfast that leaves you feeling full and satisfies your sweet tooth!

Veggie Craze

We can always use more vegetables in our diet, and 2016 is doing just that. Vegetables have taken over our carbs and even meat intake; they act as supplements for pasta , pizza dough, hamburgers and more. This is great for anyone looking to cut some carbs from their diet, or just want a healthier and lighter diet.
